Red Cross Louisiana Flood Relief

Just imagine. Rising waters have flooded the basement, first floor, and even the higher floors of your home.

The volume of water is so great and rising so quickly that you and your family have no choice but to grab just a few things among your valuable possessions and flee.

This is a very real scenario for thousands who were forced from their homes by recent flooding in Louisiana, the largest natural disaster in the U.S. since Superstorm Sandy. Fortunately, the American Red Cross has been there to provide food, shelter, and supplies.

From the onset of the flooding to mid-August, the Red Cross and its partners served nearly 100,000 meals and snacks and mobilized dozens of disaster response vehicles, portable shelters, and trailers filled with kitchen supplies. It’s not just a local effort – more than 1,000 workers from 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia have been on the ground to lend needed relief and support that also included helping people connect with loved ones.

Early estimates indicated that relief efforts in response to the recent flooding in Louisiana could surpass $30 million. On August 19th, Zausmer attorneys and staff went “Casual for a Cause” to help offset this staggering figure, contributing in our own small way to the Red Cross’s boots-on-the-ground activities.

From blood drives to lifesaving classes, humanitarian aid, support of U.S. military families, and disaster relief, the American Red Cross depends on volunteers and donations to carry out its mission. For more information about the organization and ways that you can donate, click here.
