A seasoned defense attorney, Jonathan Hartman focuses his practice on first-party no-fault, third-party motor vehicle negligence, property damage, and other claims.

No stranger to the courtroom, Jonathan has extensive trial experience spanning decades, including medical malpractice, premises liability defense, products liability defense, criminal defense, and business and municipal law.

Jonathan’s competitive spirit and communication skills translate into impressive results in the courtroom, giving him the edge when defending his clients. Jonathan is fascinated by the dynamics of people and their circumstances, along with their various demographic cultural behaviors and differences. He relishes in the exploration of the complex intricacies that play into each case. Jonathan strives to expose the truth and is passionate about working towards fundamental fairness to get the right result for his clients.

Jonathan began his career at a smaller law firm in Genesee County, where he practiced for over 18 years and became a shareholder. He also acted as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Grand Blanc for over a decade. In that role, he represented and advised the council, department heads, and law enforcement officers. Jonathan’s ability to observe and think quickly on his feet gives him an advantage in his trial strategy. He is well-respected for his reliability, his insight regarding litigation tactics, and his recognition of outcome potential and case values.

Jonathan was awarded a golf scholarship to Michigan State University, became a member of the Men’s Varsity Golf Team, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Pre-Law in 1992. Drawn to the mountains and ski slopes of Colorado, Jonathan then earned his law degree from the University of Denver and is also licensed to practice in Colorado.

Jonathan has presented before the Genesee County Medical Society and Dental Society on various topics. He has also served on the Michigan State Alumni Genesee County Board of Directors and the Genesee County Bar Association Board of Directors. Jonathan’s love of golf through his involvement with the Flint Junior Golf Association, serving on its Board of Directors, and as its President for 10 years. Since its inception in 1939, the FJGA has provided an opportunity for young golfers to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf and is recognized as the oldest and one of the largest junior golf programs in the country. Under Jonathan’s stewardship, the FJGA has contributed thousands of dollars in college scholarships on behalf of its participants.

Outside of the office, Jonathan enjoys spending his free time with his two children and traveling all over the world, including Ireland and Scotland, to play golf. Just as golf develops character through the structure and the rules of the game, it also develops the skillset that Jonathan believes is vital to his practice: patience, sportsmanship, the ability to focus on the task at hand, making strategic decisions, and maintaining civility and collegiality among the parties.
