Ryan has a diverse litigation background, with experience defending complicated actions involving construction, architectural, and engineering liability, as well as first- and third-party claims and general negligence actions. In many cases, he secured impressive victories despite the odds.
For example, in a dramshop action in which the carrier faced a half-million dollar default judgment, Ryan stepped in and not only had the judgment set aside, but obtained summary disposition in his client’s favor. In another case before the Michigan Court of Appeals, he successfully argued that darkness is an open and obvious danger by itself, convincing the judges to dismiss the premises liability action he was defending. Even as a new associate, he demonstrated superior written advocacy skills that allowed him to obtain favorable results as capably as more senior attorneys.
Ryan received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and remains a diehard Wolverine football fan. After a short career in the banking industry, he went on to earn his law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While there, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the law review, participated in moot court, and played on the UDM Law hockey team.
