With superior advocacy skills and an uncanny ability to think on his feet, Brian Meyer is most at home in the courtroom.

While earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor at Emory University in Atlanta, Brian had his sights set on the courtroom, making the decision during his second year in law school to join the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. After an intense program at Naval Justice School that included training in the Uniform Code of Military Justice, criminal law, international law, and military rules of engagement, he served in various assignments in California, Georgia, and Iraq that allowed him to develop his trial and counseling skills while also learning to manage a substantial caseload and instilling discipline and strict attention to detail.

Immediately before leaving the JAG Corps in 2008, Brian served as a branch office head, providing in-house counsel to 12 military commands serving thousands of sailors and marines, and prosecuting federal cases as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney.

Looking to parlay his military experience to civil practice, Brian returned home to Michigan, accepting a position with the insurance defense and professional liability practice of a Detroit-area firm, where he represented financial advisors, attorneys, and property owners in state and federal courts and before administrative tribunals. Motivated by the promise of more time in the courtroom, he joined a busy personal injury practice, where he added automobile accident, no-fault, premises liability, and other negligence cases to his repertoire before later returning to the defense side at a firm that represented individuals and corporate clients in a wide variety of claims including construction defect, product liability, and commercial disputes.

Brian joined Zausmer, August & Caldwell in April 2017, bringing his extensive and impressive litigation background to the firm’s Insurance, Business & Commercial Litigation, and Professional Liability practice groups.

Outside the office, Brian spends as much time as possible with his young family. He is an avid tennis player and golfer, as well as a lifelong University of Michigan Wolverine fan.
