Detroit Dog Rescue & The Devoted Barn

ZAC Devoted Barn

Like many other major U.S. cities, Detroit has a stray dog epidemic, and various animals experience neglect and abuse. Rescue workers do their best despite insufficient funding and resources, so on December 2, 2016, the ZAC family went “casual for a cause” to raise money for two organizations committed to helping animals in our community.

Detroit Dog Rescue – the city’s first and only no-kill shelter – offers pet care education, provides low cost spay and neutering programs, assists low-income families with pet food and medical resources, and advocates for alternatives to euthanasia. You may have read that Wayne State University police officer Collin Rose, killed on patrol, was an active volunteer, and his fiancé currently works there. Detroit Dog Rescue is now building a new play yard in his honor.

The Devoted Barn, a rescue and rehabilitation facility on 53 acres in Newport, Michigan, takes in animals of all kinds suffering from neglect, cruelty, and large scale hoarding. Additionally, the organization helps unowned animals in need of urgent medical attention, and runs a feral dog program. Through its efforts, animals heal both physically and emotionally, learning to trust and love – again or for the first time – while at-risk youth and special needs adults have a place to work and contribute.

Special thanks are owed to Legal Assistants Nikki Baker and Halina Romanski for leading our efforts. Nikki graciously matched a portion of the funds raised for each organization, significantly increasing our overall donations.
